Introduction: telling stories that transcend
At La Villa Producciones we believe that every story has the power to inspire, transform and leave a mark. We do not conceive an audiovisual production as a simple product, but as a bridge that connects emotions, ideas and realities. Our philosophy is based on an unwavering commitment to excellence, innovation and the construction of meaningful narratives, always with the aim of providing both artistic and social value.
During the last three years, this vision has led us to achieve an accomplishment that fills us with pride and reinforces our identity as a production company: winning consecutively the Historias del Cambio call, promoted by the Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications (MinTIC). It is not only a recognition of the technical and narrative quality of our work, but also the confirmation that our stories manage to deeply connect with the audience and generate impact.
In this period we have developed three miniseries that have marked our trajectory and have become references of our catalog: El Regalo, La María and In Memoriam. Each of them was born with a clear purpose, went through a creative and technical path full of challenges and culminated in a work that today continues to resonate in those who have seen it.
This article opens the doors to our production universe, taking you to discover what happens behind the scenes in the production of miniseries that have been awarded and applauded. We invite you to join us on a journey project by project, from the initial spark that gives rise to the idea to the final touches of postproduction.
We will talk about preproduction, filming, art direction and photography, sound and editing; but also about the anecdotes that are only experienced on a set, the technical innovations that we apply to optimize resources and the way in which each member of the team contributes their unique talent.
More than a technical recount, what you will find here is an intimate radiography of our creative process. We want to show you how we balance artistic vision with technical precision, how we face unexpected challenges and how each decision, no matter how small it may seem, contributes to making the final result move, inspire and remain in the viewer’s memory.

El Regalo: creativity and technique at the service of an inspiring story
Preproduction: from idea to final script
El Regalo was born with a clear objective: to tell a deeply human story, capable of conveying a positive and hopeful message about friendship, empathy and second chances. From the first creative meetings, the La Villa Producciones team worked to bring to life a story set in a middle-class neighborhood in the south of Bogotá, where two children from different worlds share the same challenge: learning the multiplication tables.
During preproduction, we held script sessions in which the character profiles were meticulously defined: Felipe, raised by his mother Angélica after the mysterious disappearance of his father; Simón, son of Arturo, an ingenious and caring recycler; and Arturo himself, a key figure for the emotional twist of the story. The script and directing team worked hand in hand to ensure that each scene not only fulfilled a narrative function, but also evoked real emotions in the viewer.
Visual strategies and staging were designed to highlight the contrast between the two worlds and, at the same time, show their points of connection. The planning included detailed location work, selecting authentic settings that would provide veracity and texture to the narrative.
Filming: key moments and anecdotes from the set
Filming became an exercise of synchronization between the technical and artistic team. The locations, full of life and color, naturally contributed to the warm and realistic atmosphere we were seeking. However, as often happens in outdoor productions, we faced unforeseen challenges, especially climatic ones. There were days when the rain forced us to restructure the shooting schedule in record time.
One of the most memorable moments occurred during the filming of the sunrise scene: after several hours of waiting in silence, with the team completely ready, we managed to capture a perfect shot that conveyed exactly the feeling of rebirth and hope we were looking for. That image ended up being one of the most iconic of the miniseries.
Additionally, scenes such as the exchange of the toy dinosaur and Felipe’s father’s photograph, or the tense confrontation between Angélica and Arturo, were worked on with special care to maintain the emotional weight without falling into excessive dramatism.
Postproduction: the invisible magic
In postproduction, the story acquired its final form. Our editing team was in charge of giving rhythm and fluidity to the narrative, balancing moments of tension with those of tenderness. Color grading played an essential role, using warm tones to reinforce the closeness and humanity of the characters, and cooler tones in scenes of conflict or uncertainty.
The soundtrack was designed to emotionally accompany each key moment: from the laughter of the children playing to the final reunion between Felipe and his father. This work, added to the care in sound design, allowed the creation of an immersive atmosphere that reinforces the message of reconciliation and hope that defines El Regalo.
The final result was a miniseries that not only met the highest technical standards, but also managed to move, inspire and leave an emotional mark on those who watched it.

La María: a narrative challenge with a social soul
Planning and logistical challenges
From the moment La María arrived at our table, we knew it would be a special and complex project. The story required careful treatment, not only because of its historical and political weight, but also because of the way it intertwines past and present through a symbolic element: an old Remington typewriter capable of transporting its users to the turbulent 1950s in Colombia.
To achieve this, we carried out exhaustive historical research, reviewing archives, photographs and testimonies that allowed us to accurately recreate the context of the government of Rojas Pinilla, student protests and military repression. Location planning was one of the most meticulous stages: from the cobblestone streets of La Candelaria to period interiors that could give credibility to the time jumps.
The shooting schedule was designed to the millimeter, since we had to alternate scenes in different decades, ensuring that art, wardrobe and props maintained temporal coherence. Constant communication between direction, production and script was essential to guarantee that each line of dialogue and each action were aligned with the tone and intention of the story.
Art direction and photography
The visual proposal of La María focused on creating two distinct but connected atmospheres. For the scenes set in Bogotá in the 1950s, we opted for a slightly desaturated color palette, with predominance of ochres, muted greens and grays, evoking the sobriety and political climate of the time. In contrast, the present-day scenes (2011) were illuminated with more vivid and natural tones, reflecting the energy and hope of the contemporary student movement.
The director of photography worked hand in hand with the art team to take advantage of natural light in exteriors and design lighting schemes in interiors that would add depth and drama. Each frame sought to highlight the symbolic weight of objects—especially the typewriter—and the emotions of the characters in key moments, such as Daniel and Margarita’s visions, or the discovery of Aurelio’s past.
Editing and final delivery
In the editing room, La María took its final form as a compact miniseries but loaded with emotional intensity. The editing alternated fluidly between the two timelines, using visual and sound transitions that connected past and present without breaking the narrative rhythm.
The original soundtrack, carefully composed, combined period instrumental elements with more contemporary sound textures, while the sound design incorporated authentic environments: the tapping of the Remington keys, the bustle of student marches, the echo of cobblestone streets. All of this contributed to immersing the viewer in both realities.
The final result was a production that, in addition to meeting the most demanding technical standards, managed to move, provoke reflection and generate dialogue about historical memory and the importance of public education. On social media, reactions were immediate, confirming that La María had managed to connect emotionally and politically with its audience.

In Memoriam: narrating memory with respect and sensitivity
Construction of the visual narrative
In Memoriam was one of the most emotional projects we have produced, not only because of the story it tells, but because of what it represented for the entire team. Set in the emblematic Teatro Capital of Bogotá after two years of closure due to the pandemic, the plot pays tribute to the memory of colleagues who are no longer with us, especially Emilio, an actor from the cast who passed away before the reunion on stage.
The challenge was to find the balance between sincere tribute and dramatic strength, avoiding falling into excessive melodrama. To achieve this, we designed a sober visual narrative but loaded with symbolism, with a staging that alternates the warmth of moments of camaraderie between actors with the tension of the mysteries that occur during the performance.
We used long shots that allowed the viewer to feel inside the theater, capturing details such as dust on the curtains, flickering lights or the brushing of a costume that recalls those who are no longer there. The smooth transitions between fiction and dressing rooms reinforced that feeling that the show and real life merge in the same space.
Coordination of the technical and creative team
This project required a very high level of coordination. Each scene involved multiple narrative layers: the play being rehearsed and performed, the conflicts between the actors and the mystery of the spectator dressed in black. The technical and creative team worked in perfect harmony, discussing every angle, every camera movement and every pause in dialogue to maintain narrative tension.
In the words of our director: “It was essential that each element had a purpose, that nothing was gratuitous”. From the arrangement of props—where missing objects became clues—to the way the wardrobe reflected each actor’s personality, everything was designed to reinforce the central message: in theater, memory never fades.
Innovations in sound and editing
The sound design of In Memoriam was one of the most experimental aspects of the project. We wanted sound to transmit not only the atmosphere of the theater, but also the intangible presence of those who were no longer there.
Immersive auditory layers were worked on: from applause that seemed to come from an invisible audience, to the echo of footsteps resonating in empty hallways. The editing combined these elements with a calculated rhythm, allowing the viewer time to process emotions before moving to the next scene.
The sonic climax came with the discovery of Emilio’s letter: a moment that united fiction with reality and made it clear that theater is, in essence, a place where life and memory coexist forever.
The team behind the scenes: voices and talents of La Villa
The production of In Memoriam confirmed that the soul of La Villa Producciones lies in its people. Each department contributed its mastery to bring to life a story that required precision and sensitivity in equal parts.
Featured interviews:
Direction: “Each miniseries is a creative laboratory; we do not repeat formulas, we explore new ways of storytelling”.
Photography: “Light not only illuminates, it also narrates; every shadow tells something”.
Production: “The real challenge is coordinating everything so that what we imagine comes to life on set”.

The creative alliance between La Villa Producciones and MinTIC
Behind the realization of El Regalo, La María and In Memoriam there is a fundamental partner: the Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications of Colombia (MinTIC).
For three years, we have had the honor of participating and obtaining, consecutively, first place in the Historias del Cambio call, a program that promotes the creation of audiovisual content with high cultural, social and educational value.
This call seeks more than technically impeccable projects; its objective is to find stories that represent the multiple realities of the country, that inspire and provoke conversation. For us, it has been the ideal platform to materialize ambitious ideas, allowing us to produce content with a quality standard that competes with that of large productions, while always maintaining the human and social seal that characterizes us.
MinTIC does not act solely as a funder, but as a true strategic ally. Through its support, we have been able to:
Define and enhance themes of social impact: addressing from friendship and empathy (El Regalo), to historical memory and student movements (La María), and the tribute to artists who have passed away (In Memoriam).
Guarantee high technical standards: meeting demanding requirements in image quality, sound, script and editing, which allows productions to be screened in theaters, broadcast on television and circulate on digital platforms.
Expand the reach of our stories: thanks to the national distribution managed by MinTIC, our miniseries have reached diverse audiences, from students in rural areas to viewers in large cities.
Strengthen the Colombian audiovisual sector: the program encourages constant training, promotes networking spaces and provides feedback that enriches each production.
In this joint work, each production has become an experience of learning and growth. We have learned to plan more precisely, optimize resources without sacrificing quality, and above all, to maintain the essence of our stories even within demanding schedules and technical guidelines.
The result of this collaboration is not measured only in awards or recognitions, but in the real impact that the miniseries have had on those who have watched them. From the child who identifies with Felipe and Simón, to the university student who finds in La María an echo of her struggles, or the theater lover who is moved by In Memoriam, each viewer is part of the reason why this alliance with MinTIC is so valuable.
More than institutional support, this relationship is a bridge for our stories to travel, inspire and endure. Because, as we believe at La Villa, when technique, heart and the right support come together, stories can transform realities.
